Portsmouth Friends of the Earth Update 

Annual Bike Ride – Sunday 30 May To celebate National Bike Week, join us on a bike ride with the theme ‘Body, mind and sould: health & wellbeing through the ages.’  Meet us in the Guildhall Square at 10:45am for an 11am start.

This linear ride through Milton, Eastney & Southsea will explore locations linked to health and wellbeing; finising at Southsea Pier to enjoy a cool drink or an icecream.  Although short, the ride will last about 2 hours as we will make several stops at places of interest. 

The ride is suitable for anyone who is confident riding short distances on the road.

Great British Spring Clean – 28 May to 13 June.  Join Keep Britain Tidy’s Million Mile Mission.  Let them know how much time you can pledge to clean up your streets, park or beach.

30 Days Wild 1 – 30 June Take on the UK’s biggest nature challenge this June and receive a free pack of godies to help you on your way. 

Greenpeace Portsmouth campaign meeting – Wednesday 2 June 7:30pm – 9pm. Find out more about current campaigns and how you can get invovled.  New members are welcome.   

Kill the Bill demonstration – Saturday 5 June at 12 noon This is in response to government plans to give police more power to impose restrictions on protests through the Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Bill.  Meet at Victoria Park, Portsmouth PO1 1DU.

Hampshire Climate Action Network meeting – Saturday 5 June 10-12:30 Email hcan@winacc.org.uk if you’d like to receive the agenda and link.  The meeting will include updates on the COP26, transport, working with Hampshire County Council and the CEE Bill.

Make the Wave – G7 Rebellion Thursday 10 June at 10:30am Join the action against sea level rise by walking from Clarence Pier onto the beach or meet up at 11:30am on the beach opposite the Pyramids.

Portsmouth Green Drinks – Thursday 10 June at 8pm.  Jenni Jones from Sustrans, the walking & cycling charity will talk about the exciting new School Streets programme which is being launched in selected Portsmouth schools. For a meeting link email greendrinks@gmail.com 

School Streets: Getting Started – Thursday 17 June 7pm Join Pompey Living Streets’ online meeting to find out how these work and how you can campaign for one at your school.

South East Climate Alliance Day – Saturday 19 June 10-1pm.  The theme is ‘thinking big in the year of COP26’ and the aim is to take some time to network and talk together about how we can lift our game to drive change at the scale and pace that is needed. .  

National Events.   
Biodiversity & Climate Crisis Summit – on the road to COP26 Wednesday 2 June 5:30 – 8:30pm.  Join the dialogue between the public, scientists and representatives of different UK government agencies and important NGOs. 

Groundswell Campaigning Talks and Events  11-13 June 2021 Friends of the Earth has organised this weekend of free, online talks, workshops, celebrations and action for the climate justice movement. It will bring together experts, activists and communities from across the movement for a weekend of talks, workshops, celebration and action.Organised by Friends of the Earth. 

Clean Air Day – Thursday 17 June Global Action Plan is bringing together communities, businesses, schools and the health sector to improve public understanding of air pollution and how it affects our health. 

The Economics of Biodiversity II – Thursday 24 June at 7pm. A cafe-style conversation with Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta about his landmark global review of the Economics of Diversity.
